The videographer was not me Steve :) The end result was the photographer and couple were lucky.

Oh, yes I see 'from a Maryland Photographer'. My eyes - need spectacles :)

I see this has generated the spark of flames regarding $500 photographers (: We see it differently than the punters who shell out thousands for dresses and cakes but the photography is possibly last on the list.

Well, that's human nature I suppose. Won't change easily or probably at all. They pays their monies and takes the chance is all I really think about it. I do 'economy' wedding coverage but I've been shooting weddings for years and the backups are just my regular bodies I haven't sold.

Our eldest gets married 9th August and a good friend is doing it for free now how's that for cheapskate? :) True. I'm not making it up. He will have me there tho, and 3 of my bodies as back up 6 lenses, two tripods, 1 pair steps to stand on (hmmm, wonder if we should have back up for them too?? )

Hey, we should have a back up Reverend too. And cake, and, and ...

Just jokin :)

I don't care if you're getting paid $5, $500 or $5,000. It's someone's wedding and you've agreed to shoot it. If your main camera goes down and you don't have a back up that means you're not shooting and not fulfilling your end of the deal.

Unbelievable.
I had my 2nd camera die on me during one of the weddings. I have 3 cameras now. Actually the most paranoid/nerve-racking part in wedding photography for me is equipment malfunction and traffic.

Ditto

I broke 2 PW Plus11's and had 2 580's go out at the same wedding. I was pi$$ed. I have 3 5D3's and so far they have been the most reliable cameras I have had to date

you are in IDIOT if you show up to a wedding with one camera.

I keep my old 40D for this reason. Use the 5 & 7 but always have the 40D with my just in case. It's worth so little used now that it's worth more to me to hang onto it as a backup just in case.
