Would be all over that assuming performance is there. And I'll be glad to be the guinea pig.

if it is true - $2400 for a new top of the line lens isn't unheard of (see 70-200 II), but it will be interesting to see if people think that the turn mechanism for zoom and the 82mm filter thread while being lighter (read: more plastic) will make it worth the wait..

i am not sure if I want this rumor to be true. While it isn't a focal length that really gets me "going" I have considered getting the lens just for the few times I would shoot that long.

Basically the petapixel rumors is a quote from canon rumors who report they heard a rumor.

At $2,400.00, I'll be getting the Tamzooka.

I think it would be better to get the old version to be honest.

I don't know about 600 at f6.3. But like anything it comes down to budget and what your willing to live with.

For me, it's a bang for buck question. Right now, I'm not going to get $2,400 of use out of that lens so if I want a super tele zoom, the Tamron is a better fit. If I can justify the extra cost or the lens comes down in price then I'll consider it.

Rumor sounds believable, but until photokina it is still mythological. The 7DII rumor is also getting more believable and the two would make a great combination if the rumors hold any basis in fact.

I like the rumors as I see them but it all comes down to $1400 worth of image quality over the Tamzooka and will it be available for shipment, while the Tamzooka is still a waiting game.

Shouldn't the thread be titled:

"The newest new new new new new new new new new new new new 100-400L Rumor" ?

In the first place, this lens has been 'coming' for 10 years. In the second place, the patent Canon applied for was for a f/4-5.6, not f/4.5-5.6. That is the one we all know and love, from 1998.

HHhhhmmmm...... Does f/4 mean it will AF focus with a TC ?
