3 confirmed rumors. Priceless. And what aperture would be the 400mm DO?
It's a Mk II...so it would be f/4.

As the owner of a current 100/400L, I believe its unlikely to be different. Certainly an constant f/4 across the focal length range would make the lens much bigger than the already weighty mk1. I played with the 400 and 500 primes as well as the 200-400 F/4 zoom supplied by Canon via Castle Cameras on Bournemouth seafront for the air display a few days ago. Beautiful pieces of kit but all massive and expensive, too massive and expensive for me I'm afraid. Richard

Phoenixkh a mere speck More info | Sep 04, 2014 10:07 | #37 I wonder if Canon would do something like a 200-400 f/4 instead of a new 100-400. I'm just thinking out loud in print. Maybe the range of the 100-400 is too great for much improvement. I'm just thinking out loud in print. Maybe the range of the 100-400 is too great for much improvement. I realize they have a stellar 200-400 with built-in 1.4X teleconverter but that one is out of the price range of most people who own the 100-400L, or that is my guess. I know it's out of mine. It would still be a $6000+ lens... not in contention with the original or any of it's competitors. If you want a Canon 200-400/4, buy the 200-400L w/tc and don't engage the TC. Why would Canon make it easier and cheaper than that? Kel

The 70-300L is an amazing lens so I'm hoping Canon can come up with something of that quality with a long range of 400mm. That is why I'm wondering about the range. Even a variable aperture lens would be fine with me if it's as good as the 70-300L. As long as they don't do what they did with the 70-300L (making it incompatible with Canon TC's). Kel
