I'm trying to use a 150-600mm with my 7D and it's not going very well if I'm honest
Could you elaborate? What are the issues?

Sitting here with a pot of loose leaf Archibald wrote in post #17256257 Could you elaborate? What are the issues? Struggling with the tight end of this lens coupled with a crop sensor and handholding. Also typical overcast British weather and wanting to try stopping down a tad to sharpen images doesn't help the final image. Looking at the 7Dii as a possible cure (faster AF and perhaps a stop of noise? ) My fault for using this as a sports lens in poor light really. Call me Amanda please

As for the push pull, it would be a shame to lose that feature. This is the BEST feature of this lens, and to want this lens,. and not want to push pull is like wanting a slow Porsche. If you want slow, just get the VW. The 100-400mm has a lot of room to catch up among today's lenses. It can be weather sealed, it can get better IS, and faster AF, it can be made to be super sharp. All of this would be a plus, but if they ditch the push pull, I am keeping the old one for sure. You can push pull the Sig 50-500 OS, and the new 150-600. For the 150-600mm I believe it even mentions it in the manual. I push pull my 50-500 OS all the time. I also have the 100-400mm. I think the 100-400 is faster to use though. I usually use the sig, though, lol. amanathia.zenfolio.com

Massive 24-70mm f4l IS deals. 16-35mm f4l IS ? Great price. 40mm 2.8 ? FANTASTIC optical quality. The new crop sensor wide angle with IS? The new crop sensor 24mm pancake? The 35mm f2.0 IS? Not to mention the optically fantastic 18-55 and 55-250 STM lenses that are priced great? :P Canon is on a roll with some great inexpensive glass. 24-70 f4 - started out at a much higher price, didn't sell, forced to lower the price and still isn't particularly popular. -Tom

Archibald You must be quackers! More info | Nov 06, 2014 19:46 | #97 Push-pull is fine for this lens - EXCEPT that it is not weather-sealed, and in fact is very sensitive to moisture. I had mine out in wet foggy conditions, and the barrel got wet. The next day I noticed some black paper bits coming out of the zoom mechanism. More followed later, small bits at a time, over a period of weeks and months. Finally it started to make grinding noises when zooming. That's when I decided to send it off to Canon for repairs. Shadowblade Cream of the Crop More info | Nov 06, 2014 20:11 | #98 I wish they had gone with a non-extending design rather than a telescoping barrel. For long lenses (physically long, not necessarily long focal length) I find that changing the length of the lens by a large amount when zooming greatly changes the balance of the camera, not to mention problems with zoom creep.

Yes, internal-focus designs have their advantages, but since they change the focal length when focusing, that creates problems when using extension tubes, and can make it impossible to calculate DOF. Often I yearn for the old-style designs. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F
