Sounds like a White Balance issue. Could you post an example?

havent got any on the net as of yet as im at work. I assumed it was to do with the WB, but what about setting the level of flash lower to a more subtle fill flash mode?

You can change the flash exposure bias by presing the right hand button (next to Drive-ISO) on the top of the camera (above LCD), you can then use the back dial to change between -2 and +2. If you look on the LCD you can see what it is set to.

Hope this helps.

I think what you refer to is FEC (Flash Exposure Compensation) - in which case press the right-most button on top of the camera, and you will see a smaller version of the normal exposure compensation appear in the viewfinder. Then, using the wheel on the back of the camera - turn to the left decreases exposure and to the right, increases exposure. Would help though if we could "see" your problem :-)

Remember that the amount of compensation remains in effect even after you have switched the camera off and back on again.

Almost got the right word. yeah, compensation was what I meant. I was drawing a blank when trying to think of the name.

Sorry if it looked like I was correcting you, but I certainly wasn't. I hadn't seen your reply - we must have typed our responses at the same time.

I was simply referring to the original posters "description" of the lighting that he/she wanted to correct. Sorry if it came across that way:)

Look up FEC (flash exposure compensation) in your manual, easy stuff :)

i must be blind tim, im sure i couldnt find anything with regards to lowering the level of the flash on my cam... will have to try next week then as my manual is at home :)

but on a quick crash course, i have to switch flash on, then half depress the shutter release and turn the big dial at the back to reduce flash?

I was aware of the FEC (Flash Exposure Compensation), but assumed this is more to do with changine shutter speed or aparture (in the same way that exposure compensation works in non-flash mode) rather than to do with reducing the power of the flash itself. Am I correct?

Take a look at Page 96 of your manual.

Something that ahdn't been mentioned (although its covered in the manual) is that your on/off switch should be at it's "second click" (just past the ON mark).

Then press the right-most button on the top of the camera - this changes from the standard exposure compensation guide (in the viewfinder) to the FEC one. Then half press the shutter, to activate the viewfinder display, then use the wheel on the back of the camera to change the reading.

Again, don't forget to manually cancel (zero) it when you've finished.

Have fun! :)

ds06: it doesn't "physically" change the shutter speed, as that would have a knock-on effect to the overall exposure. It's tremendously usefull when using fill flash to "adjust" the amount of light from the flash reaching the subject - whilst leaving the shutter/aperture set for ambiant light.
