One of the smaller local clubs has access to a very nice quarry & hosts a float fly that to date I hadn't attended. This year I made sure I could attend & I got some very different photos vs the regular events.

I learned that controlling them during the take off isn't that easy & although it looks like this one wasn't going to get airborne it did after a few more wing tip dipping events.

Then there were the reflection shots (prop freeze due to stopped motors not shutter speed).

The GoPro camera belongs to RC TV who were covering the event. It had been mounted to both the top & bottom of the Carbon Z Cub.

Great photos all....but my favourite is the first one.

My wife's grandfather was an early bush pilot in Manitoba and NW Ontario. He started flying in the 1920's and a lake in Manitoba is named after him.

He flew everything from Gypsy Moths, Fokker Universals, Junker JU 34 (with floats and skies) ....Bristol Air Freighter....finally ended his career with DC 6's . Flew a lot of other planes also during his career.

Thanks everyone. The reflection photos are pretty nice compared to the usual landing photos I get at the regular events.
Lesmore, that man would be a real pioneer of the bush pilot era that opened up the north. I'll bet he could entertain me for hours with the stories he lived. The Beaver was the nicest plane at the event & it was flown by a very good pilot. Here's another good shot of it with water droplets from another plane in the foreground.

Thanks Rick. It's just a bit east of the 416 & 43 intersection. If you're interested Scale over Ottawa is this weekend. The emphasis is on scale flying vs being judged for an accurate build but it should be a good event. AND there's another float fly in a couple of weeks too.

judged for an accurate build

I'm guessing that they don't give extra points for having an aged look to the AC. I used to know an artist who also had a railroad layout in his basement, & everything was aged as if it was decades old. The realism was exceptional & added a lot to the experience.

Frank there are scale events (none locally) where the planes are judged quite carefully & the aged look is one of the things many builders work on. Here's one with a bit of an explanation of how it was done. It first appeared in message 32 but message 42 has a better photo plus the info.

Thanks Randy. I have another float fly next weekend & now that I know what it might offer I'll be watching for calm areas & suggesting that the pilots help me get similar images. I really didn't think about the possibilities when I decided to go to that event but now it's one of those things I need to work on. Maybe you should consider attending. It's only a short drive from Stittsville.
