What's the best approach to carry two bodies at a wedding?

I'm going to start doing weddings. Mostly for family at first but then for others. As most do I will be needing to have two bodies and lenses at hand most of the time especially since I will be working alone at first.

I have a 1Dx and 5D III with Grip that I typically connect with a Black Rapid strap (via the L-bracket with a 1" QR clamp) but often don't use both at the same time for most of the work I do. When I shoot sports one is typically on a monopod and the other on the sling strap.

For weddings I've thought about getting the dual black rapid strap but am concerned the bodies with large lenses (70-200mm f/2.8L II and 24-70mm f/2.8L II) will swing around and either hurt some one or worse yet get damaged when it hits something.

I know there are a lot of solutions out there but not sure which ones work well and are worth the investment. Probably will have a thinktank shooting belt and shoulder strap for it so I could attach to that with a Spider type solution. I know there is this Cotton carrier as well but don't know much if anything about it.

Would really like to get some advice from experienced wedding shooters to understand what works for you. Thanks in advance. Steve

People seem to love the "money maker" shoulder harness system, I'm personally a fan of the dual spider setup but the 70-200 mounted on a gripped body can be cumbersome even on your hip, and I also never have a flash mounted in the hot shoe, so I can't comment on how a 1D sized body + 70-200 + flash hangs on the spider.

I have been using a husky red rolling tool box for 2 yrs now. I hate having 2 camera on me. I find it to be a total PITA and restrictive. I keep one around my neck on a short leash, on my other 2 bodies ar in this case with lens attached to them. I just reach in and grab. No More beat up bodies in unnecessary dings, plus i juts makes things easier to carry and move around with. I never got that fancy straps or holsters. I think they are useless. I have plates at the bottom of my camera as well. so its easy to set on on the ground if im doing stuff with 2 perspectives

BTW, These things work great for travel as they fit right into an airlines overhead. Last weekend i carried 2 5D3's. 24-70,and an 85L in a think tank bag, and the 135L.50L,35L 70-200 and 2 flashes and batteries in another think tank bag which all fit into this case and were stored in the airlines overhead. The only thing i need to check is the pelican which has my lights and triggers and other crap i take when im shooting out of town

Honestly, one of the best investments i have made in the last 2 yrs. I roll everything. Just easier than carrying and im a hell of a lot less tired at the end of a long day

I thought about the spider for the camera with the smaller lense and keep the 1DX with 70-200 on my existing Black Rapid Strap With this I actually connect the strap to the lens tripod ring and could have it at my side when using the 5DIII and 24-70. Then drop that into the spider and shoot with the 1 DX. Also like that the Spider works with think tank belts and has an ARCA Swiss connection option.

THe Red Rolling toolbox looks like a great Idea as well I will have to check the venue that the wedding is at and see if I can make that work. Seems much easier than putting one of my Thinktank backpacks on the floor and trying to work from that.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

I use a Black Rapid DR1 setup with a 1Dx on each side....works fine for me.

When working weddings eons ago, I worked with two Nikon F cameras (and four lenses). I always had my shoulder bag along to hold what I wasn't using at the moment.

I had another shoulder bag with my Mamiya C-33 and a couple of lenses in it. That wasn't used very often and so it stayed in the trunk (boot) of my car when I didn't need it.

+1 on the Money Maker, your back will thank you for it.

I've been to a funeral with two bodies.
Wouldn't it be easier if the bride and groom were alive?

I also carry 1DX and 5D3 at my shoots and after using several types of systems, Joby seems to be the most versatile and affordable. The cinch system is brilliant and tucks the camera body away when operating the other. Combined with the ultraplate, you have eliminated the tripod mounting issue.

Heya,

Two rapid straps, or slip straps. One to each side. Main camera in hands on whatever strap is your dominant side. Other camera on strap on your back. Swap when needed, one forward, the other goes to the back.

Or things like the money maker (which is basically two rapid/slip straps).

I used the moneymaker last wedding! Great and good looking strap.

I used a couple of combo's. So I still switched a couple of times. Still alot more convenient than using just one body.

17-40L | 35A
70-200L | 35A (Most of the time)
35A | 85L

I normally use a Black Rapid for my daily shooting (actually own two - an RS-7 and Sport) so have thought about getting a Yeti or Double which I guess could replace the ones I have and they both support two cameras.

Also really like the idea of the SpiderPro to use on my thinkTANK Pro belt with ARCA-Swiss clamp but that's about twice as much as a Yeti.

The Money Maker looks interesting. I'm assuming I would need to buy a large one if I go down that road. Learned it comes in three sizes. Thats about the same prices as the Spider solution.

if you plan on doing this a lot, I'de get a belt holster like the spiderpro. Casually, get the optech double sling.
