as far as I know, 70d has superior AF in comparison to 60d, and you want to shoot sports, go for 70d.

maybe this could be helpfull: http://thedigitalcamera.net …os-60d-vs-70d-comparison/ (external link)

The 70D gets phase detect AF in Live View which is quicker. I don't think the non-live view AF is any better though you get more AF points.

my friend recently bought 1100D, so i could compared it side by side to my 70D.

- there are differences of course.. 70D has much better 19-point AF system including LV focusing, this really counts only with fast motion and sports, viewfinder is much bigger and brighter, body is bigger and has better ergonomy, fast burst rate and bigger buffer, MFA, WIFI,etc... just newest canon tech.

but for the price and in good hands, 1100D is amazing performer, one downside : it has 12mpx sensor, so it is not so cropping friendly as other cameras.

for video and close up boxing, i think 1100D is sufficient for now, invest your money lenses - preferably fast telelenses (70-200 f/2.8)

Better is relative. The 70D may or may not be more accurate and/or faster at AF than the 60D. It is more flexible in how you can deploy it.

The 70D also auto focuses in video mode. The 60D does not.

60D as many other Canon cameras also focuses in video mode, but much slower with serious hunting.

AF:
The two have Totally different AF systems.
The 70D AF in ANY mode is vastly superior to the 60D.

The "Standard" AF system in the 70D is the same AF system originally put into the 7D. This 19 point AF system was the precursor to the new flagship system installed in the 1Dx and 5D3.
the 60D on the other hand sports the same 9 point AF system introduced with the aged 40D.

This contrast detect AF system as fielded in the 7D made the 7D the darling of bird and sports photographers that were not interested in spending $5K on a 1D body.

For live view AF the 70D wins again with it's still unique dual pixel CMOS AF system.

For some reason Canon didn't include microfocus adjustment in the 60D. That'd be a deal breaker for me. The 50D and 70D have MFA.

The fact that you're interested in doing video and action with it screams 70D.

Good info and comparison there. Thx

right, the 70D has more AF points than the 60D if you need that, otherwise from what I have seen (sports) they seem to lock on the subject the same
