My first attempt at cycling shots, couple of close ups of the race in Sheffield on Jenkin Road. This is a hill that has a gradient of between 11% and 40% and the guys in the leading pack were past me in about 15 sec! Luckily these guys in the second pack were a little slower.

The second photo is well composed with the riders filling the frame. The first one is cluttered because of the DOF. In order for sports photos to "pop" you should use long lenses with large apertures. But then there´s the money...

Glad to see you were´t one of the many i***ts standing in the middle of the road photographing until the lat second as the riders approached. I did see the police driving in front having to violently push spectators off the road. I did see the same thing as I photographed British Cycling Championship a few years ago : People barely managing to move when the cyclists approaced.

Thanks for your comments, I do see what you mean. I'll have a look and see if I've got any more with a clearer background.

I agree about the spectators too, while watching the race on TV I saw some spectators jump into the road to wave at the cameras - not good.

It´s a first attempt. It´ll take lots and lots of photos before everything "clicks" but it´s a beginning. As Bryan Peterson says : You keep shootin´:)

The second shot is well balanced. I know a lot of people who had trouble getting good shots because they go by so fast!
