Spotless sun

The sun is pretty well blank today. There is one tiny spot, but my camera couldn't resolve it.

This was shot without a filter. We had a lot of high altitude smoke from forest fires over a thousand kilometers away. The smoke made the sun visible to the naked eye as a dim red disk.

Beautiful! Amazing to get such an image without filters!

But it's important to be careful.

With more than half the power in invisible wavelengths, it's not safe to predict the intensity from just the amount of visible light.
