How do you find someone...

...if you don't know who they are?

I was given a box of old film by a friend that buys stuff at auction houses/ storage units/etc., as he knows I'm into photography. There were a few rolls of exposed film from the 70's and 80's, and I took a stab at developing them. Results ranged from very good to miserable. But these were someone's old family photos. I'm not certain if they are all from the same family. On the roll I developed tonight, there was someone's grandparents who I'm sure are long gone, and these may be something the family would like. On the same roll were three young girls (9-15 would be my guess) at grandma & grandpa's farm. One of the girls was wearing a shirt from Trickum Middle School, which I found out is in Lilburn Georgia. One of the other rolls was of a football game (HS I believe), and one player is probably the photographer's son. That roll is c. 1974.

I just think it would be awesome to reunite the people in the photos with these old family treasures, but I really have no idea how to start the search.

So far I posted a message on the Trickum Middle School's Facebook page, with one of the photos asking to be contacted if anyone recognized any of the girls. I was also thinking of posting a craigslist ad, but anything to do with one person looking for another on CL seems to only be about sex.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to possibly locate these folks, I'll be happy to try it.

I can't come up with some kind of quick answer, but FaceBook has been pretty useful -- I've made several contacts with people from my "early days", people from high school and my home town, etc...

I agree with Tony, I'd start with Facebook and ask those that know or may have an idea to share the photos, especially if they have friends/relatives in that area. I have read several occasions where the Facebook community has been able to track down and reunite people with other people, family heirlooms, etc. Best of luck!

I know nothing about these people. The only thing I know is that one of the girls went to this middle school sometime in the 70's or 80's. That's it. So I don't know anyone who may know them, or anything else.

facebook. post it to your page, ask others to post it on their page, and before you know it over 100,000k people will see it, in a matter of a few hours.

Try doing a FaceBook Search:

Search for names, search for school names, search for home towns!

Try a Google Image search using one or more of the faces.

I would suggest a more traditional approach: call/email the school. They would most probably be able to forward the picture to teachers from that period. It is pretty amazing how some teachers can remember faces from 40 years ago...

You could also try contacting a local TV Station or New Paper in the area of the school
and give them a few of the images to show as a Human Interest Article. The local TV
stations here, do it all the time, with found memory cards. It's amazing how fast showing
the photos on a local New Report or New Paper article or website, can reunite people
with lost photos.
