My brother needs a good quality camera or camera + lens kit for his study. His budget is maximum 1500$ and for first i thought he could get himself a 6D or a sony A7 so he could use lenses from my collection. However this is not for a long time and i dont want him to use my lenses all the time. So i also thought about a kit. Its hard to recommend someone an APS-C sensor camera when you exactly know how darn good a fullframe sensor is.

I recommended him:

Sony A7,
Fuji XT-1
Canon 70D
Canon 6D

He will doing stills but since he wants to make videos professionally i think the 70D might be the obvious choice (especially when he could use my 18-135 or 40 stm lenses). But professional filming means also manual focus so its not the best option compared to other cameras.

What do you think?

Let him try your 650D and those 2 lens and decide if the 70D is needed or worth it?

I could also sell him my 650D plus my EF-S lenses since im not using it so much. But then again i like the 650D for more reach on my 70-300L.

He is in canada currently so he cant try out, and since prices in canada are lower than here in switzerland i think he should buy one there..

We then a trial is not an option. I don't know Canadian pricing, but I would choose a used 50D with MFA instead of the 70D unless the goal is video use for him. 6D is also a great camera as we both know.
I would suggest talking with him and showing the reasons you own a 6D and the 650D
their relative strengths and weaknesses and that will help him make up his mind depending on his goals.

Why not the 70D + 35mm f2 IS since he'll be doing video? I would say 6D too but the cheapest you could get it is around $1400. The 35 will be roughly around 50mm on a crop sensor so would be a great spot for him to do stills or video!

hmmmm. If he is just starting out, perhaps the 70D with the 18-135 STM would be a good place to start.

Personally, I started out with the 60D refurbished and the 15-85 (used) and later added the 70-300L for a decent two lens combo. The 18-135 STM didn't exist then and from what I've read, the IQ is as good as the 15-85. The wide end of the 15-85 is very nice for landscapes, at least, for me.

Right now, he could pick up a 60D refurb and the 15-85 (used) for around $1200, give or take.
