Just checked Henry's and their price for this lens is no at $2029 CAN. That's a $300 increase over the last month or two. WOW.

That's insane.

Exchange rate changes, maybe?

No, the price for this lens used to hover around $1700-1899. I think with the rumour of a new 100-400 they've hiked the price.

That's kind of crazy. This lens dates back to 1998.

Can't speak for Henry's but I can tell you Camera Canada had the superteles really cheap the last few weeks. I emailed them last week about cost and shipping and was told that Canon was raising all Canadain prices by the end of last week. Not sure that is the cause but could be playing a apart.

Checking CC's website, the supertele prices did increase almost 10%.

I would think that would have driven the price down, not up.

I just checked B&H and Adorama and the price there is $1499 after mail-in rebate.

Not bad considering I bought my copy in 2006 for $1400~

Since the canon rebates have ended I've noticed an increase in lens prices.

Check out http://www.photoprice.ca ….5-5.6L-IS-USM-price.html (external link) for the most current price comparisons.

BTW- It may be an "old" lens, but mine is tack sharp!

It read the rebates end August 30, 2014.

Yep, mine is sharp also, no complaints.

Except that the same rumour has been on the go for at least 8 years. I nearly didn't buy my 100-400 because of the rumours of a replacement - in 2006!

Why would they hike the price because of a new one coming out? Wouldn't that make it harder to sell the old one, thereby raising the incentive to move the ones they now have quickly?

That would depend on how high the price of the new one would be.

Interesting perspective, didn't occur to me. I just bought this lens used for 1100 and plan to sell it after my trip to Africa. I was concerned it would lose value if they come out with a newer version.
