Hi all,

I drove past this windmill (about 1 hr drive west of Brisbane) a couple of weeks ago, and thought it would be a good spot for a bit of nightscape photography. So I returned on Thursday evening, and here's the result...

The image is a single 20 sec exposure using the 50D and EF 35mm f/2 @ f/2,8 and 3200 iso. I used a LED torch to highlight the windmill.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Stephen

Love the concept but the windmill is too well lit. Sort of looks photoshop added.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Thanks for the feedback... I wanted to make sure the text in the vane was clearly visible, which is why I did the light painting. It's hard to judge how much to use though! My feeling is that this is about right (I have some brighter ones), but here's another shot in landscape orientation where the windmill is less bright.

(I also tried doing separate exposures for the sky (at f/2.8) and mill (at f/11 with torch), but this looked very photoshopped and fake to me.)
