I've d/l'ed the new 3.0 utility from Canon US, Canon Australia, and even Canon Hong Kong. All three files are exact same size and date. All three abort about 1/5th of the way through the file unpacking step at the very beginning with the supremely un-useful error "Failed to expand the files." and an OK button.

I have 8GB of RAM, plenty of HD space, WIndows 7 64-bit with all updates, etc etc. There's no apparent reason this program should go down in flames like this. Numerous downloads have same result.I I've left comment for Canon USA but am not hopeful for resolution.

Anyone have a suggestion or similar happenstance? ???

The serial numbers on neither of my cameras allow me to download that file so I can't help you any more.

Guess you need serial numbers from one of these
EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 6D

I also see the following statement in the installation instructions concerning supported PC's. Could anything there be an issue?

PC with one of the above OS preinstalled and a USB port as a standard feature (Upgraded machines not supported).

I fed my 6D serial and the file downloaded just fine. A bunch of times. From three different sites.

No. I meet the qual's. DPP 4.0 downloaded and installed just fine. It's just the executable unpacker for the EOS Utility 3.0 that chokes.

Are you using IE? I had a similar problem with Chrome recently and discovered that IE finished the download uncorrupted.

Well, I'll be a sunuvabeech...That was it. Fired up IE, download, and ran install just fine.

I hate things like this - you don't know whether its something flukey in Chrome, some odd thing going on on the Canon website download end, or what.

Thanks very very much!

I just had this problem yesterday when I tried to download Silverlight through Chrome. I still don't know the cause but I'll just use IE for now when this happens again.
