I just came back from a week trip with the family and kids and lugged my 5d, MacBook Pro, iPads, iPhones, etc in a backpack. My usual workflow is shoot in RAW, edits on laptop, post on Flickr then repeat.

Is there a way I can ditch the laptop, shoot in JPEG, and connect a CF card to an iPad mini for simple edits? It would be great for family trips and much easier traveling without the notebook.

I know the old 5DC has had issues as far as "connecting" in fancy ways, in fact I gather that the EOS Utility software can't connect with the 5DC, so I have no input, but let us know!!:)

I would just bring the camera, and enjoy your vacation. Leave the editing for when you get home.

You can download images from your camera directly to the iPad using the camera connection kit. Once on your iPad, there are many apps that can be used for processing. I do this when traveling to e-mail images to family and friends.

Are you sure the 5D "Classic" can work with those utilities?

I have not actually tried it on a classic, but I don't see why not? It just grabs the embedded jpeg and transfers that to the iPad, but I would get it clarified before purchase. It's only about $30 for the photo connection kit for the iPad.

The iPad photo connection kit does not work with CF cards. I bought one that does take CF, it worked for a while, but now no longer works.

Apple already makes the needed accessory.

CF card reader may or may not work (or you might need a powered reader) or you can go with directly connection to the USB port on the camera, at the cost of camera battery, but better than nothing. looking at the first page of reviews, 5 stars from 20d, 40d, and 5dII users.
