I agree, a bit more space in front of the bird would be beneficial.

I wondered about that too. My mockingbird shot shows what they prefer to eat which is bugs. You can watch them fly around catching bugs for long periods of time. They're really good at it too. Maybe there were some bugs eating the seeds in the shots by BigJohn.

Whatever the case those are some spectacular shots because of their clarity. I shot mine from about 12 feet with a EF-S 55-250mm at full zoom. Bigjohn must have been much closer than that or my camera is total junk! ;)

Apparently mockingbirds eat insects and things like berries at certain times of the year. I looked up that info after I took this shot today which made me wonder what their main diet really is. This shot isn't great but it gets my point across I guess.
