Does anybody know the species of this critter? Location is Long Island, NY, North America.

I am not any kind of expert on insects but after searching the net a bit, it looks like it belongs to the thread-waisted wasp family.

It looks similar to some parasitic wasps in the family Aulacidae (external link). You can submit the photo to ID Request at BugGuide for an expert's opinion.
