Hey all,

Going to start shooting some static cars and I was looking for the "don't do this" items of static car photography. Also some advice on what glass to use? I have a 70-200 2.8, and a pretty fast 35. Any advice is appreciated!

Take a look at the links in my Sig, and you do have a tripod, right? Good luck!

One unconventional approach.

The extremely low, close and wide approach can be useful in isolating a subject at a crowded car show where conditions can not be controlled. Framing these images took a Canon 60D and its articulated screen, using Live View. Of course, the camera was placed on the pavement and then pointed up, and the image was framed through Live View.

These images demonstrate one of many options. The use of a longer lens requires different positioning and far more control over conditions to isolate the subject.

Are you shooting at a car show, private shoot, or random cars on the street?

BTW DC Fan I think those pics would look a lot better if you zoomed out a bit or took a step back. The 1st pic is cropping out the front wheel, the 2nd pic is cropping out the hood, and the 3rd pic is cropping out the sides. I'm not sure if that's what you're going for but I think it would help.

I was shooting a car for a friend and I ended up with a few shots I liked.

its all about the location IMO. The above pictures wouldnt be nearly as good if everything was the same but with a boring background (ie: parking lot, field etc)

Location is important and also light if your shooting with natural available one. Best times are in the early AM and late afternoon. Sometimes the skies can be use to your advantage.
