6D Battery drain with GPS

Hi, I know this has been discussed already on this forum, usually from a point of view of "I have got a new 6D and the battery just goes flat when I am not using it", well it is pretty well know that the GPS does this even when the camera is off. I for one like the GPS feature, but find the battery issue really irritating.

What I would like to know if how other people handle it, these are the options I see:
- Turn off GPS
- Live with it and make sure you always have a spare battery
- Remove battery when camera is not in use or leave battery door open
- Install Magic Lantern as it has features that address this issue.

To me all these are work arounds. The remove battery option is what I am doing right now, however I am concerned that it will drain the battery cell (if there is one) quicker.

I have delayed getting a grip for this because of this issue as it will just end up draining both batteries if I forget to remove them. Third party batteries are hard to find in NZ and genuine ones are pricey, so more batteries is an expensive option.

Thoughts, strategies?

When I am not using the camera I simply turn off the GPS function. I was on a trip several weeks ago. I turned the GPS on in the morning, used the camera all day, and turned the GPS off in the evening. The battery lasted several days.

Pretty much this. I haven't heard of any other solution. I don't use my GPS, but I know this is the general consensus. Recently even the WiFi has begun draining my battery when off, not sure what that's about, but I know I'm not the only or first member to experience it either.

I turn it of. I find that I don't use it and it's not like I do that much travelling that I need to know where I am when I take a photo.

Shortly after acquiring my 6D I realized that I didn't need the GPS or Wi-Fi features.
I turned both off, no battery drain issues.

Also, you can set the time it collects to the lowest value, that way, it doesn't try to acquire location all the time.

I use the magic lantern option. It works most of the time, you can see GPS turning off, and when it doesnt work, turning on and off again usually does. I got magic lantern for the added features, GPS stuff was just bonus.

I leave the GPS option on and control it with ML. Works great.

I do the same when travelling, but I have a spare battery with me all the time.
Once I have had to change the battery during the day.
