Have them, don't like them. Using optech now and won't go back. I use an Optech dual strap when I need two bodies. I've been informed that I look like a geek when doing so but I really don't care about that.

I had an off brand one, the eye almost backed out on me. May not happen with the Black Rapid. What I do not like about it was the fact that I couldn't set it down on the table without rocking on the eyelet.

I have used Black Rapid for years, never any problems. If you cinch up enough the camera rides nicely slightly above your hip, lower it will bang around a bit.

I've tried both the Cinch by Luma Labs and a strap from Carry Speed that is very similar to the Black Rapid shoulder straps. I personally prefer the Cinch because its design allows me to carry a camera with the lens facing downwards, sticking more closely to my hip/upper thigh. It also weighs less, and it takes up less space compared to the Carry Speed strap due to the size of the padded portion.

I use a Black Rapid and have been happy with it. Check out the new strap that Peak Design has coming out. It won't be available till October, but it looks quite nice. I know I'll be picking one up when it comes out.

As far as using a sling strap in general, I don't actually use the tripod mount for mine. I use an Op Tech utility loop through the strap lug, then I attach the strap to it. This way the camera is hanging from the strap lug rather than the tripod mount and I don't have to worry about strap hardware getting in the way when I want to use my tripod.

That new Peak Design looks nice. Thanks for mentioning it.

Here is a link to their kickstarter page with more info and a video of the strap.

I use a sling. Presently I use a Black Rapid, but I ditched the tripod screw and connector snap, and in their place threaded on RRS mini clamp designed for a strap (I use an L-Plate). I can now quickly remove the strap for tripod use, or even leave the strap attached when I use a monopod.

That said, the Peak design looks very interesting, and could be easily adapted to the RRS mini clamp.

I use a BR as well. but like Scatterbrain I use an Op/tech utility strap to the strap lug. I also run another utility strap down to the Joby arca plate on the grip. Then hook both of those together at the Black Rapid hook.
I have a third party grip and after seeing how small that piece of plastic is for the tripod mount I didn't trust it.
Plus this way I can keep my BR on the camera all the time as well as the tripod plate. Another nice feature is the plate will let the camera sit flat, unlike when the black rapid knob is on the bottom of the grip.

And no it doesn't bounce against my leg. It rides lens down just above my thigh.

I've used the black rapid, and quite like it.. The price, not so much lol! I've been looking at the cheaper ebay knock offs, but was wondering if anyone has any experience with these?

Although the OP already made his mind up: I still want to throw my vote for the black rapid in. Love the way how easy it is to tuck the camera on my back, but still stays accessible in a heartbeat.

I use the original Peak Design sling strap. It keeps the base plate free so I can leave my tripod mount in place and still have the sling strap.
