HI,

I just got a Yongnuo 565 II, and plan to use it in ETTL mode as an off-camera flash using the T3i as the "commander". This works fine but when I'm in the ETTL slave modes ("Sc"), the AF LED light continuously flashes (like an AF assist light). What's worst is that the LED light can actually appear in the photo. I've search thru all the options and manual and I can't figure out how to turn off the flashing LED. The LED works as it should in non-slave modes. Can anyone help? Thanks.

If it is like the Canon flashes, they blink this light when in slave mode to indicate they are ready to use.
Not sure how this light appears in the photo since this panel is supposed to be rotated and facing back at the master flash.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess some tape is in order to cover the flashing AF. This certainly seems like a f/w issue since my subjects occasionally have "measles".

If your Yongnuo operates in the same way as a Canon 580 II, then covering the flashing red light would seem to be an option.

On reading your post I was initially dubious but decided to test the premise, covering the flashing light with black card, but NOT the adjacent sensor. Planked the ST-E2 transmitter on my G1X, and switched the 580 to slave mode.

It works.

The blinking is normal but seeing the red lights in the photos is not. Mine always blink in Slave mode but never show in photos. It seems that the flash knows not to have them on while taking the photo. Are you sure this is what you see in the photos...?

You should not see the light unless you have a really slow shutter speed at night. Set your flash and then Try pointing your camera right at it and take a photo.

Thanks for the input. Yes, the red LEDs shown up in the actual photo. I would have thought the LED blink would turn off during the actual exposure. I was hoping there would be a CF function which I could simply turn off the LED blinking. This also needlessly burns power.

Never seen that red light in a photo on my Canons, and I have deliberately used them to help AF sometimes.

Yeah, my Canons are fine too. I went on the cheap and got the Yongnuo for 1/3 the price. When the exception of the blinky LED AF assist light, I'm pretty happy.

My daughter has the flash right now and she's out of town, but I've asked her to send me one of the test photos.

Do you actually have the Yongnuo 565 II? There should be no way the LEDs appears in the photos, regardless of the shutter speed. You mentioned "slow shutter speed". Can you quantify? I think I've used something like 1/60 sec but I see if I can retrieve the EXIF data of the offending photo.
