Hi all,

If i will use a rim/kicker light to the sides for highlight or whatever, what is a good way to do it, strip lights or using some kind of boards to cover most lights coming to the front lens but allow light on the sides back of the model or even straight sides, i just read different ways but not sure which can be less expensive and less hassle and more portable.

Also if some recommend going with strip softbox, what size is acceptable or what you choose if it is open opinion?

All of the above are good ideas, and all of the above may be the most ideal, depending on the situation, studio, location, etc... I use plain old umbrella's most of the time, but I'm looking into strip boxes for more control. Size will depend again on application - one person? full or head shot? outdoor or studio?

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Sometimes I use a bare light, but lately I've been using a strip box. I don't have a grid yet, so feather it so that just the edge of the light output is lighting the side of the subject.

What sort of look do you want?
What light sources do you already have? (Speedlights, Profoto strobes, Elinchrom strobes, Alien Bees, home depot work lights, etc etc etc)

Here's the strip that I'm using. It didn't come with the grid that's shown in the image. I put it on my Elinchrom D-lite 2 it.

Profoto Pro head 1200 Ws
Profoto Pro RingFlashII

That Google Images search doesn't direct me to a single image. The styles returned by that search are all over the place. Some of them, I might not describe as low-key (which is not to say they're bad or wrong, just that Google Images is not a good way to define a term).

You can do low-key lighting without any modifier at all. One of my favorite low-key methods is to use two bare Speedlights on tall stands.

Because i didn't know how to explain it for you, low key is one sample as a look i want, but there are another looks i want, let's say the lights around the body such as arms, shoulders, legs and such us, i am not talking about direct or side front lights, but those lights that can shape the body or define it against the background.

Anyway, sounds no help with no clear details i can give or misunderstanding me.

Well, i think i will buy a strip softbox in all cases, but now about the size is what stopped me, so what do you think or recommend of the size?

I saw 2 that i want to buy one of them:

1. 35x160cm [14"x63"]
2. 40x200cm [16"x80"]

Which one of above you will choose? or you go with another size?
