Hi,

I currently own a Manfrotto 468 MGRC4 ballhead and I want to buy a L-bracket for my Canon 5D Mark III with Grip.
The easiest thing to do would be to buy a L-bracket from Manfrotto, but according to the Amazon reviews, it doesnt seem to be good.

Will this combination work with my ballhead:

BGE11-L: L-Plate for BG-E11 Grip
B2-AS II
L84: Multi-use fore-aft plate

Or should I just buy the RRS L-bracket and get a QR Clamp from Arca?

How good did RRS adept the ARCA measures? Will this be future proof? I ve heard that some 3rd party manufacturers arent 100% ARCA compatible.

As long as you can remove the quick release clamp from whatever ballhead you own you can switch it out for an Arca-Swiss compatible clamp of any style and use the MUCH better Arca-Swiss style L plates and lens plates like those from RRS. My recommendation is to stay all RRS brand stuff, but if you for example go with a screw clamp as opposed to a lever clamp it should be compatible with any Arca-Swiss compatible brand.

I still have the 468 hydrostatic head but mine came with the RC2 clamp system. I switched it out to an Arca Swiss compatible clamp and it made a huge difference. I chose a screw clamp to avoid any quick release plate issues (as ben_r_ mentioned) but RRS improved their lever clamps to automatically adjust for most Arca Swiss compatible plates.

Since then, I have upgraded my tripod setup to an RRS system and couldn't be more pleased. I still use the 468 MG on a ground pod.
