The red sun in the first image looks very unnatural. I would tone it down a lot. The second image is nice.

I Agree. My first focal point was the red sun, when IMO it should be the trees. Both images are great but number 2 is definitely your stronger image. :)

The funny part is, the color of the sun is as the camera captured it - I made no adjustments to the red. I did bring the luminance of the orange down a bit. The sun is behind some clouds, so perhaps the purple in clouds impacted the color of the sun ?
