Received the following via e-mail. Do not believe it is code restricted.

http://www.newegg.com …-Combo-_-Combo1759775-LC1 (external link) Not a bad price for 10TB of back up if you need it!

Hey, thanks for posting.

Looked like a great deal until I read the user reviews of this specific external drive;

Might be something to consider.

On second thought :oops: Think I need to continue shopping.

I could not spot many reviews and Newegg has these reviews separated from the deal (deal being a 2 pack). Have ahd good luck with my 4tb Seagates but based on those reviews I am not sure these 5's are worth the risk.

Thanks for the feedback Jake!!

I bought two Seagate expansion drives 1 1/2 years ago. Both malfunctioned just after a year. I lost a lot of data. I read that seagates have a whopping 25% failure rate. Other competitors have drives that are far more reliable.

I have three Seagate portable hard drives, 2 and 3TBs. Never had a problem and have had them for a few years. You just never know.

I've got plenty of working seagate drives myself. But if you compare this 5TB to the 3TB ratings, the 3 and 4 TB drives are rated much higher.

I realize newegg customer reviews are a small sampling,..

but the first batches of the highest capacity drives tend to be the most problematic as well. And for some reason, Seagates tendency to release these highest capacity drives early often seems to bite them in the arse. I recall the first affordable 2TB was Seagate and it was rife with controversial click of death. 5TB may be in my future in a year or so. 3 and 4 I would be comfortable with now.
Currently my largest drives are still 2TB

I am on the wall about these. I have 3 x 4tb seagates that have worked without fault and a few smaller ones. Only issue I have seen with HD's has been with WD's. Newegg feedback is pretty poor though. There is 1 x 5 star review on B&H. Thats about all I am seeing. As Jake mentions - feedback is with 5tb and new is not always a good thing.

I tried to cancel my order this morning though these are on their way - guess I have a few days to decide now.....
