I have been using my 35f2 IS for about 6 months and I love it. I almost never touch my 50f1.4 because it's not IS. If there was an 85mm f1.8 IS lens I'd be in hog heaven. I do have an use, heavily the 100f2.8L IS, but something a little shorter and 1.3 stops faster would be perfect.

It seems like the next logical step for the Canon non-L prime revamps.

I think they would put IS in a 50mm before an 85mm.

I also have these and love the 35IS but practically never use the IS. With the 85 I would need it even less, as I typically use it for kids portraits so I need faster than 1/125s anyway. But an IS version will probably come someday.

what kind of light are you constantly shooting in that you can't get faster shutter speeds than 1/50?

I'd love a 100mm f/2 IS that was as good as the 35IS.

IS would be good on an 85 1.8 but I want them to add IS to 400 5.6 first.

How does 'logic' skip the 85 f/1.8 and 100 f/2? I don't think Mr. Spock would agree with you.

Logic dictates that the needs of the many outweigh... nevermind.

While I thoroughly enjoy the IS on my wider lenses, traditional wisdom is "the longer the lens the more it needs IS". I expect IS versions of the 50, 85, 400, and 135 by this time next year.

IIRC, there is a 100mm f2.8 IS. Will that do?

1-1/3 stop smaller aperture, and nowhere near the focusing speed of the 85/1.8.

Not to mention the PF. ;)

I would hope the 85 IS would be smaller and less expensive than the 100 2.8L IS, too.

I've never felt the need for IS with 85mm f/1.8. Adding IS to it, the price and physical size will increase significantly. The EF 85mm f/1.8 is one of those bang for your buck lenses.
