This tripod sure has a lot of great reviews. Does anyone have this tripod and would recommend it? I;m also wanting to dabble in the world of multi-row panoramas so I was wondering if you can remove this head and add one that will work for that?

you can get the benro version of this tripod (MeFOTO is a subsidiary (or what ever the correct term is)), for the same price as the mefoto (they sell for about 100 bucks more here in the US).

I used this seller (as have many others here in this site). I went with the 4 section rather than the 5 but I am sure both tripods are very good the mefoto's are super popular.

Forget this tripod. It uses a 1/4-20 stud to mount its ball head. You definitely should find a tripod that uses a 3/8-16 stud if you want to use a variety of heads on it. Most decent heads have 3/8-16 threaded sockets.

Yes, there are thread adapters available. However, a 3/8-16 stud is going to be significantly stronger than a 1/4-20 stud (even with an adapter screwed onto it).

Not sure if it's the same but from the description, it sounds the same as the one I have =, maybe name change.

Their tripods are pretty stable (using a 60D with grip and 17-50) from my experiences.

Yes the head is removable. The base is about 2 inches. The only thing I did have to so was put loc-tite on the threading because it does come loose once in a while. There is no locking screw to put on there and loc-tite fixed it. Next time it comes loose, I will drill it and tap it and put a screw in there.

OK, so what would be the recommended lightweight all around tripod or perhaps that will be a new thread.......Looking to spend 250-500 total plus I know I'll eventually need a multi-row pano head as well

I would say the 4 section of the 5 section I linked above would work (it is taller than the sirui equivalents), with the extra 130 left over you could sell the head that comes with it and buy a good photoclam/(used top name) head. The heads on these tripods seem to be what people like lease and the head for that mefoto would probably be the same as the benro with a few extra's taken off like the locking screw and such. Or for 100 bucks more the answer that people seem to give the most is the Feisol ct-3442 and a photo clam ball head which is 600 bucks both new and i almost never see either of them up for sale used.

I was actually just looking at this tripod at the store because I am looking for a larger tripod. I have the next size down of the MeFoto, and it has been great. However, i find its to small for my current set up and I will be selling it. This one was slightly larger, but honestly not by that much. Looking at the Benro 2682 for about $100 but is noticeably bigger.

Looking at your gear, id shop around for something slightly bigger. That is just my 2 cents.

I changed my mind, for 30 bucks more than your budget you can get a fiesol ct3442, and a sirui k20x (or for a few bucks more the k30x if you think you would need it)

That's a nice set up! I'm going to look into it as well.

I think you will find that most people say that the 3442 is better than the 4441s (bigger leg tubes) and it is still super light and the tallest for its weight (I think but am not sure).

Canon.
With more and more airline travel, I was in the market for a lighter, smaller collapsed travel tripod to travel with. My current travel pod is the Manfrotto 190XPROB with a 498 RC2. While stable, a bit heavy while walking and a longer length collapsed. Many "Travel Pods" hit my eye including the Benro Travel Angel II and the MeFOTO to name a few. While at my local shop they had the MeFOTO line up. Was able to put my 5D Gripped along with the 70-200 f/2.8 on the MeFOTO Globetrotter Carbon Fibre C2350Q2.extended to eye level. I am 5'11" and was quite surprised how stable this light small collapsed travel pod was. So how about a lens with no tripod mount in portrait position in the off set position? Mounted the TS-E 24 Tilt-Shift and again very stable. I was sold on the MeFOTO GlobeTrotter. Now the hard part...Black or Titanium? Heads won..Black.
Having been using it quite a bit locally and have been more than happy.
Will this tripod replace my Manfrotto trusty 190XPROB and 055XPROB....No. However, no matter the weight of my luggage I can always carry on if necessary the MeFOTO GlobeTrotter as it is only 16" collapsed nestled inside its own padded carry case with strap.
Regarding a different head, Skip may be on to something. But again you may find out it may work just fine with an adapter.
I really am happy with the MeFOTO Globetrotter Carbon Fibre Tripod.

My MeFoto RoadTrip has a 3/8-16 head stud so I looked at the specs on MeFoto's site. The GlobeTrotter is also 3/8-16. B&H must have made a typo.

Yes, B&H screwed up the specs. I also have a MeFOTO RoadTrip . The tripod stud and the Q1 head are both 3/8".

Some tripods have a reversible 1/4 or 3/8 stud but this one is just one solid 3/8"
