It's been a long time since I've posted anything at all. I'm using my 50mm 1.4 still on my trusty canon 40D but am looking at upgrading. Would love some feedback on what I could look at getting for the style I love to shoot.

Love the reflections in the eyes on the 2nd shot. I would stop it down a bit so her ears are in focus. The background isn't distracting so no need for such a shallow DOF. Nice pics!

Thanks for the tip! I think I always tend to go in a little shallow with my DOF for some reason but that makes perfect sense about the background being non distracting!

There is nothing wrong with your 40D, except that it doesn't seem to be able to shoot in a vertical format? ; )
If you "upgrade" anything & want to shoot tight, close-up portraits, the 85mm f/1.8 would give you less facial distortion. It would be cheaper to just back up a bit & then crop in though.
