i think the forum is good the way it is. but what you can do is add a Cash Mod to the forum so people can earn "money" for each post they make. and when they accumulate enough money they can "buy" a thread. they have that for phpbb, i dont know about vbulletin.

At that rate, CDS would own the place, not Pekka, with Tim & Marie holding strong minority shares.

This guy posts rubish all the time and gets oodles of responses, what gives" then I realize that this poster is a bumper, he pads his threads with single replies to everyone who replys to him (we all have seen this type), thus giving his pictures more exposure and more replies.

Well, that is one interpretation of this activity and it may well be accurate in certain instances. I make a point of responding individually to each person who comments on my posts. I do that primarily as an acknowledgement of that person's interest to have responded and as a courtesy. To do otherwise could be construed by them as disregard or rudeness. Personally I should not want to be so ungentlemanly. As for post counts, well, so what? Who cares?

I'm not sure about forcing people to comment on threads, but i can think of a few who should be forced not to comment at times

In thinking and taking the time to properly formulate this post, I asked myself, where do i begging? The beggining perharps.

I don't know how i got singled out among the people that post feedback, but I guess I'm doing something right for being in your minds :D.

I would like to say that while this idea has a certain validity to it, it is also self defeating. One doesnt want to be take advantage of and let others enjoy our knowledge without contributing. This is a double endged sword in my opinion. the people who request feedback, or need it the most are those who aren't taking fabulous photos to begging with. They are looking for ways to ameliorate their work, if we have these people posting, i fear it would be a waste of time and energy. When I open a thread, i read the posters description and review the image. I take the time to read everyones feedback and unless the photo is spectacular, and i'm guilty of this also, I find the "great shot" just takes more time to read and thus more time for me to add a comment or suggestion. For those who really want to get better, they can post in the critique section and there its less sugar coated.

I find it great that people can voice their thoughts on photos here, We must remember that we all share this forum with people from all walks of life, all experience levels and all budgets. there are people here still using film, 100$ p&s to the top of the line canon 1dmk2 with $4k L glass. How can the pro say, bump the iso to 1600 and use a faster lens to the user with the p&s? there are general tips and we must keep in mind our comments must apply to everyone. If at all possible.

What I'm getting at is those of you, that do not frequent other forums have no idea how truly spoiled we are here. In my opinion i say let this slide, the person who needs the feedback today will get better and in turn provide feedback in the future.

end chapter 1.
