Right now I do minor retouching (pimples, blemishes, minor skin softening) on my photos. I decided to start practicing more on the high end editing techniques, since I've been doing a lot more fashion & beauty type shoots.

I started with the usual Youtube & Google and found some nice starter videos. I know a lot of you are experts and I was wondering of any tips, tricks, or videos that you would recommend?

I'm pretty sure this takes awhile to learn, but I'm always looking to evolve and get better.

Here's some of my photos:

This is what one day I hope to accomplish I know I have a long way to go. I really like the softness and the texture:

Don't overdo it. Remember that skin texture is o.k. ;)

Go over to the ModelMahem site and this forum: http://www.modelmayhem.com/t.php?forum_id=18 (external link)

It's the Internet Bible for fashion and beauty retouching. Tons of info there burried deep in the archives.

There are several gurus active there, but the most famous and most prolific is Natalia Taffarel. Just Google that name. She sells a DVD set that gets high praise.

But a warning... the gurus over there are in love with two techniques, "frequency separation" and "dodge and burn". They offer those techniques as the only viable solution to every problem. They are like someone with a new hammer that thinks everything looks like a nail.

Then check out the Portraiture plugin by Imagenomic. It does a lot of the heavy lifting automatically.

The most talented Photoshop artists are capable of completely rebuilding a model's appearance. (external link) They perform some amazing work that goes beyond toning.

You're right, and that's something I don't want to do is overdo it. While I like to keep things natural looking as possible, I've had a request from a friend asking if I could get that look on a few photos.

Thanks will do, I've heard her name I'm actually thinking about purchasing the dvd.
I watched a tutorial about frequency separation, and started practicing on some images.
