Ever have someone contact you outside POTN regarding an item you have for sale only at POTN?

I did, and I'm not sure what to think.

They could have followed your for sale ad to your website and contacted you via email that way. I didn't see a phone number on the site so if they contacted you via phone then they would have had to dig harder to find that and I would consider that creepy.

I've done google searches for items I'm looking for and had forum BST come up as results. I have been temped to contact the seller outside of the forum since I wasn't a member of that forum but usually don't. I'm sure out people so though.

See what the person says. In the end it's all the Internet and you can get scammed either way. If it smells fishy just walk away.

It just seems odd to me. Gut feeling. I believe the person is a POTN member, but with less than a dozen posts over a few years. Makes me wonder why they didn't just PM here.

I haven't been banned recently...did I do something wrong? Or am I just responding to the wrong post?

If a wild google search did turn up a forum hit of someone who just happens to live close by, then I wouldn't find it strange the the person decides to see if they can locate a phone number to meet and buy in person.

But I wouldn't try something like that for someone I don't see as living close by.

In your case, your profile just says "US Midwest" which is a quite large place to expect to just meet at a local McDonalds to exchange gear/money :p

If it's the same person, no.

True, but one can delve deeper and click my link for my photo business and get my city and state.

Then go with your gut. If the person is a user then yes it would seem weird they just didn't PM you......but some people are just weird :p
