Are these 70-200 f/4 IS shots soft or normal?

I had a 70-200 f/4 IS that I sold a while ago. Missed it, so I just picked up a new copy. Maybe I'm just imagining it, but I feel like this copy is noticeably softer wide open than my older one. I remember that lens being pretty darn sharp even at f/4 across the entire focal length range. Anyways, here are some quick SOOC samples I shot while out testing it today, taken at f/4. The focus is on the subjects' faces, and in the last one it's on the little girl with the sunglasses.

You shot the first two at 200mm and f/4, which gives a DOF of 8 or 9 inches. And these images have a lot of depth. So, it's hard to say without knowing where the AF point was

That depends on the focusing distance. This isn't mfd.
