Tips on taking high speed photos?

Tips? Mostly racetrack settings of high speed action. conditions would usually be sunny and hot. Depending on season, can be mostly dry grass or lush green surroundings.

Sears Pt., Laguna, Buttonwillow, Thunderhill mostly for those that have been to either. Probably the Reno/Fenley and Parhump tracks as well.

Using a G3.

Also what is a good telephoto lens? Some shots will need to be at least 500ft away and need a nice closeout.

The biggest problem for us mere mortals is getting close enough to the action, intrusive fencing and huge run offs tend to put too much distance between the camera and the bikes. I use a 100-400 LIS USM, try and get as close as possible and practice practice practice. The key for me is to use as slow a shutter speed as I can get away with and pan with the bikes. The more you practice this technique the better you get. Track days are excellent for this, you just resign yourself to scrapping most of what you do and enjoy the ones you get right, and of course the more you practice the less you scrap.

It is a lot easier to blag your way trackside during practice and the link below shows the results of me being mistaken for “the press� and being allowed inside the hairpin at Donington Park on the first day of practice for the 2001 UK MOTO GP.

i doubt i'll get to be part of "the press" to take official national or world racing but i'd like to take pics of some of the local club racing. i can get close enough to the action if i do some corner working. hopefully uneventful corner working so i can take a pic or 2.

check amasuperbike.com (national US racing) the photos by steven scharf are 1's i'd like to be able to reproduce. i believe he's using an EOS10D w/ a bunch of expensive high powered lens.

I have had time to sleep on it and think about this now…

You are a very frequent poster, your posts range from Informative to irrelevant, they contain as many typos as mine and their general tone is, to say the least, RUDE (look I am shouting, I know it annoys you He He (oops so does that))

Now the post above this is rude but at least it is honestly rude, not smarmy and smug.

My main concern about you is that you have never posted a picture on this board and you do not link to a website, given this, how do we know that you are not full of **** and that you have never taken a decent photograph in your life.

I know I may be making assumptions about someone I don’t know form Adam but given your posting record, that never seems to have stopped you.
