A photograph is worth a thousand words, but Photoshop can produce a thousand lies. Photo editing allowed. I need all the help I can get.

This happens literally all the time. https://m.facebook.com/MusicPhotographers (external link) < that page has chronicled it for at least a couple of years. There is a recent article about John Fogarty that gives another viewpoint.

Simple supply and demand dictates that it will continue until photogs get sick of it, which will likely never happen because there will always be someone willing to do it for free. Photogs need to get a little more creative in their offerings if they hope to continue to supplement their income with concert photography. Create something in short supply that the artists and promoters demand and you might get treated a little better.

Maybe.

Frankly, the promoters and artists need to just go ahead and hire one person to do all photography if they want to control the image portrayed in the media.
