It's normal that you loose light when you bouncing off or use any modifier, (2-3 ev stops)

Thank you. I figured there would be a little bit of a hit but I was surprised at how much. Again, for whatever reason I remember the Nikon system being pretty much plug and play with good results with using the hotshoe flash.

I encountered this when I first got my 6D as well. One tip I got was to change from Evaluative flash metering --> average metering in your flash menu. I was having to dial in +2 in evaluative, and only about +1 in average. Strangely enough, after a couple days of using average, I went back to evaluative, and the camera/flash now seems to properly expose

Yes you do lose light, but as long as your flash has enough power (and is in ETTL), it should adjust accordingly.

Thanks, the 'average metering' setting seemed to do the trick. Much better results with the handful of shots I just took. Seems like a better output and more consistent.

Last night's sunset in my neighborhood: 6D and 24-105. Heavily processed (to smooth out the sky to personal preference). Plus, I had to light up the street lamp on the right using the lamp on the left (photoshop). Prior to that I used a couple brushes in lightroom to brighten the front wall in a few spots, along with the flag. I did raise the saturation levels a bit, but the colors are real. It was one of the best sunsets in a long time (literally minutes after violent storms swept through the area). A lot of people posted photos of a large rainbow from a few minutes earlier, but I only caught a little of it (nothing worth posting).

Beautiful shot, Mike. Love the colors.

Nice colors on that one Mike.

Very pleased with the low noise of the 6D (coming from the 70D).
Here's one at ISO 16000, lightly processed.

Gear List

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.
