It's normal that you loose light when you bouncing off or use any modifier, (2-3 ev stops)
Thank you. I figured there would be a little bit of a hit but I was surprised at how much. Again, for whatever reason I remember the Nikon system being pretty much plug and play with good results with using the hotshoe flash.
I encountered this when I first got my 6D as well. One tip I got was to change from Evaluative flash metering --> average metering in your flash menu. I was having to dial in +2 in evaluative, and only about +1 in average. Strangely enough, after a couple days of using average, I went back to evaluative, and the camera/flash now seems to properly expose

Yes you do lose light, but as long as your flash has enough power (and is in ETTL), it should adjust accordingly.
Thanks, the 'average metering' setting seemed to do the trick. Much better results with the handful of shots I just took. Seems like a better output and more consistent.
