I tried to do something like this over the
weekend, but since I can't keep my camera straight it didn't work out.

How did you manage?

Bit of luck probably, after I got above horizon, I had no reference point to keep it straight. Using the the onscreen level while in live view helps. I went up to the 90 degree point, and then rotated the head 180 degrees and went back down on the other side.

Both RobDickinson and Mackie have posted some good vertical pano's and might be able to shed light on a better method.

Are you referring to the Griffith Park Photo?
Settings are: 190mm | 94 seconds | f/20
Focus point is at the Observatory Building & Highlight/Shadows fixed in post.
