My mirror just quite functioning on my 6D. It will only raise a fraction of what it is supposed to. Anyone else ever had this problem?

Sorry to hear about this. I've not experienced this myself. Does your 6D have a high shutter count? Just clutching at straws here.... does the mirror move when activating mirror lock up from the menu?

I own the original 6D, got it when it came out. And I also own a 5D3. Depending on what you need it to do, the 6D is frankly a fantastic body. If I were using it purely for portrait or fast moving subjects, I would probably look more towards the 5D3. But if you do a little bit of everything, the 6D will be a champ for you.
I use the 6D a lot for concerts and low light, it beats the 5D3 hands down in those environments. The 6D almost sees in the dark and that center point can focus when I can't even see the subject to focus on manuallty.

Not sure what the shutter count is , but less than 50,000. It was purchased in March of 2013, but I have other bodies I use and I am just a casual hobbyist. It will move with mirror lock up but only a fraction of what it is supposed to.

I know it is not a 6D, but my 5D3 has a shutter count of just under 400K and I will soon be replacing the shutter box. It still works just fine, it is just too noisy when I want to use it for something like a wedding where I want to be not noticed. My 6D is over the 150k mark and still works like day 1.

Mine did, too, until today. My favorite body and I have 3 other newer ones.

I'm guessing its the same in Live View and video mode? Any error codes? It sounds like its a mechanical failure.

Live view, mirror lock up, video. All the same. It moves about 1/16" and then it is like something is blocking it, but there are no visible obstructions. When the mirror is lowered and looks like it is in the proper place the camera will not autofocus.

I'm guessing that unless you know somewhere that can do a cheap repair, you will be looking at a new body? Would you go mirrorless... something like the R6, funds permitting?

I would like to try mirrorless with the adapter. I have quite a few EF lenses. Probably will not do anything right now as I have a 6D II, 70D and 80D. This is just my favorite body because that center point will focus in the dark and the high ISO is outstanding.

I have no source of cheap repairs. I think there is only one real camera store in the whole upstate of South Carolina unless you count Best Buy.

Well if you are convinced its knackered and beyond economical repair, there's nothing to lose by taking it to bits yourself and trying to fix it ;-)a

How do you think it compares to the 6D2?

You have a Canon repair facility in VA. They will look at it & contact you with a price for approval before doing anything. Might be worth a shot to find out the $$$$ at only costing you shipping.

The 6D II is a really good body, but it cannot hold a candle to noise at high ISO or extreme low light focusing. 6D II better in all other respects for my photography.

I'm a CPS member. This helps a little more with free shipping & 20% off repairs. I don't think CPS is worth it for everyone but I shoot sports & the fact I can send 6 items (cameras/lenses) in per year for a cleaning & inspection is worth the $100 annual membership, especially for cleaning the sensor.
