I've tried using manual bu I cant tell if its ever in focus. I don't know if it's the viewfinder on the 450d or if its a problem for everyone. I tried google but couldn't find anything on the subject. Gear: 450d, 18-55mm, 17-85mm, Canon 50mm f/1.4 Tiffen 67mm CP, Dolica AX620B100 Tripod, CS4, DA camera bag

Doesn't take long at all. I can guess pretty accurately at what my settings should be depending on what the lighting conditions are like. Jordan

This 50mm lens, is my only one at the moment so i use it all the time. I was at a car event at the weekend, and here in the UK we have a very bright white Autumn sun. I was quite far away from the action so i could leave it at f1.4 giving me a nice fast speed to avoid shake. The problem was at times i could only get a fast enough shutter speed to get a exposure of two thirds on the brighter side which was giving me lots of over exposed area's.

I notice in the pic above that JoJo has a great exposure in a similar tricky light, and from previous posts he mentions always using f1.4 So what is the trick, for me to be able to take a pic with these bright exposures at f1.4. Sorry if there is a really obvious answer to this, i am very new to photography, and i wont learn if i don't ask. Thanks in advance. You need a camera with a faster shutter speed. That shot of the dog was at iso 100, f/1.4 and 1/1250. Was your iso as low down as it could go?? Jordan
