Nice set! How do you get those washed out tones yet keep the deep blacks?

Some from yesterday. I think they're all at f2. I like f2.

Brandon, are those shots from your Canon 50mm or Sigma? Your gear list shows you only have the Siggy.

brandon, did you recently replace the EF with the sigma?
what made you do so and how is it so far?

i had a choice of sigma vs canon 50/1.4
i went with canon purely b/c a friend persuaded me too lol
and also because it's cheaper to get a canon used rather than a sigma new (didnt want to get used due to QC issues)

The only thing that I can complain about the canon version (don't know anything about the sigma) is the CA and it "blooms" really bad when used wide open in difficult lighting conditions (ie dark background with bright subjects). I can post an example of what I mean if I am not being clear enough.

anything f/2 and above is sharp, and the CA can be removed in lightroom. it's a great lens.

I agree with the CA. Although it's very fixable in PP, it can get annoying.

Sorry for not getting back here sooner everyone. I forgot to check back as I changed my default subscription to NOT subscribe and I only used this guy for the day. :o

^^^lovely set, 2nd is my favorite and the cupcake shot, maybe cause I'm hungry and I love the last shot, just not crazy about that dutch tilt.

Thanks! The tilting can be attributed to the fact it was our diaper party at a local bar a friend owns and people kept buying me shots.

Thanks so much! To be honest, I didn't do much to it. In CS5 I lowered the saturation all the way down, added some contrast and then just played around with a curves and levels adjustment.

They are from the Canon. I had to borrow it from a friend as I sent my Sigma 50 to be once-overed by Sigma JUST in case before the baby comes along so I wouldn't be without it and it's not supposed to be back until tomorrow. There wasn't anything wrong with it but I figured why not.

I did indeed switch to the Sigma and couldn't be happier. IMHO the bokeh is a bit more appealing with the Sigma and I wasn't so much a fan of the flaring and fringing of the Canon. For whatever reason, my copy would fringe BAD right up until f/4 or better. And I couldn't PAY my copy of my Sigma to flare unless I truly try... HARD. I couldn't get passed that, being I usually am shooting wide open for my taste. Plus, I love the feel of the Sigma over the Canon being on a bigger body like the 5D MKii.
