M.shalaby, very nice portrait series. How do you find this lenses AF in comparison to your 24-70L or 85L? Low-light AF performance any decent?

I really like the compression a 50mm lens provides over a 35mm for taking pictures of people when I need something at faster aperture but wider then my 85 1.4.

Optically do you find it on par with your L's in terms of sharpness and colours?

Thanks in advance! Looking to maybe get this lens.

Just ordered one of these :)
Been thinking about some highter end stuff like L glass or a printer but I settled on this lens and an "Ipad 2 32gb".

A webshop had a sale on these and since i've been eying it and it's on my long term list i ordered it.
Now the waiting begins :(

Just bought one for myself, thanks to this thread. Now I'm wondering if I got a good copy. Not too impressed at 1.4 Here are a couple shots and crops. Please tell me, am I fretting over nothing or should I go back to the store and exchange it? Shot raw on a 50D, right out of the camera with no PP.

Remember that the edges are very soft at f/1.4.

i decided today i was going to try to use my 50 almost wide open with my strobes. there was a b1600 aimed at me at about half power in a 10 degree grid and a b800 bare at the back wall to blow out the highlights. i also used a 3stop nd filter

I honestly love this lens and don't hesitate to take it out on a shoot whatsoever, even having my 85L with me.

Sometimes the 85L is just too tight, so I use this without a second thought. I know I'll get a great image from it.

Its a vastly underrated lens and I put it (IQ wise 90% of what my L's are)

Put it this way... I got rid of my 50L to get this lens. IQ is hard to tell between the two honestly. The L is "better" but only marginally. I got this because it hits focus almost all the time, where the L didn't.
