I've owned both the Sig 30 and the Canon 50 1.4 (as you see above).

Shooting at wide apertures you'll learn you won't always get a sharp image. But where my Canon 50 1.4 is probably 1 out of 4 sharp (probably some user error) the sigma was like 1 out of 10. This was both on my 40D. Had I had MA I might have been okay, but the inconsistency alone was enough to drive me to Canon. I want the Sig 50mm so bad but just can't stand to play that lottery again.

I will admit when the Sigma was sharp...wow. Its colors pop and its bokeh is simply amazing.

I'm mostly going for pictures of my son and wife *indoor/outdoor, sometimes there might be low-light*. no landscapes/super fast moving objects. only type of movement would be my son moving/running around

I have a lot of similar shots between the two lenses, if you want any comparison photos to my 50mm just send me a PM. I understand how much of a delima buying a lens could be. Although, keeping in mind taking pics of your kiddo running around or your wife interacting with him you might like the extra reach the 50mm provides as opposed to the 30.
