Maybe it's not THAT bad, but I swear - once you start looking for it, you'll see it in most pictures with a highlight. My apologies to the original photographers, but I just picked a few random examples from this thread to point out the problem:

Now, these may be bad examples and influenced by the exposure in general, but I still think I see it way more often than I should. Seems to be especially prevalent in low light conditions, and made worse by high ISO.

I find one thing common in all those four pictures, the lens problem you are describing does not bother me one bit in them... Bad news: the 1.2L is even worse wide open and on 1.4 when it comes to the fringing:

To my untrained eye these just look like blown highlights.
Surely in an area of blown highlights there's no information on the sensor so things are bound to slip a bit. Are you expecting the lens to control areas that are both out of focus and blown?

But CA is something to be aware of with this lens. Light subject against a dark background @ f2.0 or less I know it is a possibility, and I try to take that into consideration when using the 50 1.4. That's not a condemnation of the lens, but it is a characteristic of it, and it can't hurt to be aware of it. It's just something you have to work around and/or correct in pp.

Thought I would do an image for 9-11. RIP to all the people killed and I hope your families and friends will be able to find closure at some point in life. You will never be forgotten. This day will never be forgotten.

Also, for all the troops killed, injured, and still fighting this war on a daily basis. Stay safe.
