I got loaned a lovely little rig to shoot with, so I figured I'd better jump on the Pringles Diffuser project bandwagon...
and I am so glad I did!!!

All shots on a 5D2 at f/16, 1/160, 100mm L, and 800-1600 ISO.
The flash was a Neewer unit that I kind flew by the seat of my pants, because I now realize I know nothing about flashes.

C&C ALWAYS appreciated...
These butterflies seem to be very relaxed and chill about the whole thing.
The bees *can* be but often they're more jumpy it seems.
I tried baiting them with honey/sugar mix water but it didn't seem to interest them... ideas?

LOvely series- the pringlator seems to be working well !
Looks like you are getting a large amount of natural light in the shots.

thanks guys!

Brian, I think I am...I'm running into an issue with it too.

It seems like I have to crank the ISO to control light, rather than power up the flash...
because powering up the flash causes hot spots on the subjects.

Consequently I had to push EVs in post on some of these, resulting in more noise.

Hence...the natural light seems more balanced because the flash is a tad light? I think?
Should I add another piece of paper into the diffuser so I can power up the flash a tad more?
Or just suck it up and up the ISO?

That sounds like the diffuser is not really working well at all and using flash is not really contributing much to the light ?
You really should be able to shoot all flash if the diffuser is working well (ie exposure more than 2 stops underexposed in the viewfinder with the camera in manual and the flash on). You could try putting more diffusion material over the end.

Lovely shots. I have a couple of layers over the end if my diffuser, plus i have the wide panel flipped down over the end of my flash with another double layer taped over the end of the flash.

I think you guys are right...in going through the photos, I'm noting that I'm getting a weak spot
effect...it's too intense in all the wrong places. Hence, my dialing it back so far it wasn't doing it's job.
I'll definitely be adding another diffusion layer and flipping down the on-flash diffuser as well!
thanks for the tips!!! I'm going to sneak out to the flower patch again before my next meeting. :)

EDIT: Nother question...what's your power/cam settings usually look like with a Pringles can and a 100L?
