This young Downy Woodpecker has been hanging around by itself for the past couple of days. It does fly, and it can feed itself, but I feel so sorry for it. It'll sit on this branch, just looking around, ducking whenever another bigger bird does a close flyby. When a gang of screeching young Blue Jays blew in, it hid on the opposite side of its branch. Maybe Momma booted it out of the nest and told it to go make a life of its own.

Great set Ian. I love watching these young Downy's patiently wait their turn at the suet feeders. Usually they have to wait for the Hairys to finish. It's a free-for-all competing with the Nuthatches!

Nicely done Ian. I have a bunch of juvie Downey Wp's at the feeder but they are all bold as can be. I'm sure it will get over its shyness and find its place.

This probably occurs a lot, we just don't get to see it. Great shots as usual, Ian.
