Very nice series, Ian!
I wonder if Mama Downy is not somewhere fairly close, keeping an eye on this young one. I have noticed with many juveniles in my yard that parents are often watching from afar and continue to supplement feed their young as they deem necessary for a pretty long time (weeks) until the young are fully independent. Hopefully, that's the case here. If not, he's getting a crash course in following instinct ;-)a

You are right, Janet, Mom or Dad was likely not too far off...I hope so anyway, this one just looked so pitiful.

Great shots Ian! Last year I watched a young Hairy learning his way around, squacking like crazy, & it was Dad that kept coming to him, than they'd both fly off... this went on for days... Always interesting watching 'nature'...
