Canon Carepak - Extended Warranty worth it?

Canon Canada is offering me a 2 year extended warranty on my 5D Mark III for CAD $ 360.

Does anyone have experience with Canon's Extended warranty? Is it worth it?

My camera is ~3 days out of warranty now, it gets low usage typically in household settings and the only issue I had was resolved by removing the battery for a while.

I find most extended warranties are generally not worth it, especially for "low usage" items

I never take extended warranties. They're just expensive insurance policies. When I consider at all the big purchases I've made over the years, I've saved thousands of dollars by turning these warranties down.

The average cost of extended warranties is necessarily higher (often a lot higher) than the average cost of repairs. That's why they are sold. So sometimes you will win by buying one, but on average, people who buy them lose.

Down here, some credit cards automatically extend the warranty for a period equal to the original. Not sure in Canada but might be worth a check.

I'm going to save my money and pass on Canon's offer.

Do warranties cover stolen cameras? I'd get insurance

no, warranties do not cover stolen cameras. only insurance. and some home owners insurance does cover a lot -- never hurts to call them up and grill them about coverage.
