I second this!!!

Excellent work!

I did remove the second printer page sheet and it helped...
The light does need to be directed better but it's an improvement!
I'll post pix soon I hope...been traveling out of state. :P

Thanks, guys.

hayath - just how would you know what spook the subject? The diffuser or the photographer? Or something else?

It's your knowledge of the subject, and the critter's willingness to let you get close, that determines if you're going to get the shot. Discussions about working distance or diffuser size are pretty much mute...

The larger shadow/object approaching Kurt? Not saying it categorically though since your images speak for themself

So much better! (Y). #2 looks slightly overexposed though. Overall, probably still need more diffusion.

I have been shooting mainly at night for the past few months. Plus, before that, with the smaller concave diffuser on the MPE65, I'd have cast shadow on the subjects anyway since the lens is no more than 4 inches from the subject, and my concave diffuser extends out about 5 inches beyond the front of the lens.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and drop 22.95 USD + shipping (I think B&H is offering free first class postage) for a Bogen Diffusion Pack (external link). Trust me on this one...

Thanks for the info, John

Rogue.Guineapig - the bottom tip of my bowl is just barely past the end of my lens. I wonder if your tube is a tad too long?

it may have been...I did shorten it up around a half inch, maybe a bit more, and I removed some diffusion material and quickly saw an improvement.
I don't have a macro lens in my possession at the moment, but when I do next I'll certainly keep going and tweak it some more no doubt. :)
