Here are a few from my latest Senior session- just a quick 30 minute session to get some shots her his rep cards before the school year starts. This summer heat has been pretty brutal here in central California and this day was no exception. By the time we wrapped up at about 7:40pm it was still 97 degrees! Reagardless, I was happy with what we got.

This young man has a passion for the "farm lifestyle". He's really involved with FFA in school and just recently had a few animals showcased at the county fair. A great young man and fun to shoot. Can't wait to shoot his full session....hopefully when it cools down a bit. Lol!

High quality, emotionless images. No story being told here. Why bother?

Kinda like your feedback. If you're going to C&C you need to do the first C as well. constructive.

Just to read your comments. I'll make sure the next ones are filled with storybooks of kitten whiskers and tickle fight just for you!

I think it is a nice set. I don't see it as emotionless, I actually see three different expressions. Coming from someone who was born and raised in the central valley, I see a typical stoic farmer/dairyman. I'm not saying these people don't have personality but the ag/farming/dairy lifestyle is not easy and is serious business, plus...these guys don't like to look soft and bubbly. I'm sure the kid would be disappointed if he was painted in that light. Good work!

I don't think 'why bother' comes across as constructive.

Anyway.. I like 1 and 5 in particular. You made him look great in a great looking setting.

I don't love the blown out sky.. but I'm sure it is what it was.

I know what you mean about the blown out sky but without hitting him with some light from the strobe it is what it was, like you said. #4 and #5 were taken within about 10 minutes of each other. Obviously I used my strobe for #5 though. ;-)a

I don't think 'why bother' comes across as constructive.

I think it does. Here's why. I find little emotional interest in these shots, little connection to the subject. As I stated, they are high quality images, but they don't tell much of a story. I just don't see much of a connection to the "farm lifestyle" you speak of. You can still be creative without including storybooks, kitten whiskers and tickle fights. You mention he is a great young man and was fun to shoot, but that sense of fun certainly doesn't come through here. I get the whole stoic thing, but other than perhaps the last image, I don't feel much of a connect going on. So you flawlessly documented this young man. That's great, but save for perhaps the last image, just don't see the reason to go to all the trouble. That's my honest take.

Whether one agrees or not, many find it very constructive to hear how others perceive their work and why. Of course YMMV. If the client sees value then you nailed it from a business standpoint.

I really enjoy #3 and #5. I feel #5 especially shows his ties to the land and I bet your client will be pleased. When you have your follow up shoot maybe there could be a way to incorporate his animals in with his shots to help tell his agricultural story?

I come from a farming background so #5 stood out to me immediately. Look forward to seeing more when you complete your follow up shoot!

This is constructive not "why bother." You should have just started with this.
