This young (?) bird was in my yard in north MS on 7/12/14 along with a blue grosbeak pair, a few robins, cardinals, blue jays, a red-headed woodpecker, red-bellied woodpecker, a northern flicker, lots of house finches, mockingbirds, and maybe a few others.

But what is it? I've searched for descriptions and pics of juveniles for all of the above, and come up empty. Your help is very appreciated! I haven't seen it since, and unfortunately, I haven't seen the blue grosbeaks since either, but....???

I looked quite a bit Janet, got the same results. It does have a Grosbeak like beak, saw one image of the backside of course that was in with female juvi Grosbeaks but not labeled,,
Someone here must know. I've not got the best track record on ID's anyhow. Maybe Evan can use his system.
It must be nice having such a great variety in the backyard, lol. Someone here has got to know.

Perhaps the most ugly backyard bird to boot.

Thank you so much for the ID help, everyone!
And for the chuckle as I read all the friendly banter

LOL, Bret! I was with you on the grosbeak bill.....even before you said it. Sigh.

Hey wait a minute! This particular cowbird truly arrived and left with the blue grosbeaks. It's a good thing that it's been identified as an adult female! If this cowbird landed in the nest of a blue grosbeak and beat out a baby blue for food.........
